My second son Jordan turns 5 on Saturday. I can’t believe that, where has the time gone? So, in honor of him I decided I would write about him for the next few days. I am going to start with a story about how we found out we were expecting him.
Samuel, our oldest, was 19 months and we knew we wanted another child, but we were planning on waiting another year or so before having one. But in November of 2005 I heard a sermon by Pastor Tom about the Jordan River. It really made an impression on me. At that time I was working and I hated every minute of it. God bless all you working moms. I don’t know how you do it. You have two jobs, the one you do outside your house and then you have to come home and do all the things I do all day as a SAHM. I really admire working moms. Anyway, I really wanted to stay home full-time but we just didn’t see how we could do that financially. Glenn was teaching at that time and we had just bought our first house. I prayed and prayed that God would make a way for me to stay home before we had our next child. During this sermon on the Jordan River God spoke to me about this situation. Sometimes I think of the Jordan river as a little stream that the Israelites crossed. That was not the case at all. The river was in it’s flood stage when they crossed it and was very wide and deep. So this was no small feat. Crossing the Jordan was also dangerous because it was a river and you could be carried away in it. I realized that I was at a “Jordan river” in my life. I had to choose to cross it and I was going to need to trust God to do it. I couldn’t see how we were going to make it financially on one income, but I felt that was what I was called to do. I was going to have to step into the “water” on faith and cross the river. So, in December I quit my job. We cut our budget down to the bare minimum and everything looked like it was going to go okay. Then in February I realized I was “late”. I was in denial about it because I just couldn’t be pregnant we weren’t trying to get pregnant and it had taken 9 months to get pregnant with Samuel. I waited another couple of weeks and nothing. So, I mentioned this to my friend. She suggested I take a pregnancy test that she had. She gave me the test but no directions. So, I took the test and I when I went to read it, the results didn’t make sense to me, it was a new +/- test and I had no idea what it meant. So, I figured it was defective. I took another test the next day and the same result. So, I called the number on the package to tell them that their tests were defective. The man I spoke to on the phone got the joy of telling me the test wasn’t defective, that I was reading it wrong and I was pregnant! I was shocked! That is how Jordan got his name.
Jordan arrived in September of 2006 and God provided for us financially during that time. Right after Jordan was born they laid him in the warmer and he immediately peed right into a box of sterile gloves, everyone in the delivery room started laughing and Jordan has been making us laugh ever since. He is full of life and loves to laugh. He is funny and does the most unexpected things. I am so grateful to God for allowing me to have this precious little boy.
If there is a Jordan river in your life that seems to big to cross on your own, take God’s hand and He will help you. Don’t look back, but have faith and God will provide.
WOW! Thank you so much for sharing. Once again I am encouraged and up lifted from your words of inspiration! Love you girl!
Thanks. I am glad I can be an encouragement!
Lovely story. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years either!
I am thrilled with the testimonies of God’s faithfulness when we are obedient to Him-
yours and mine!!
Ilove thinking about the future and how He is going to “show up and show out” every time.
